Strides in the rain

A sizeable crowd of Cystic Fibrosis NSW supporters gathered at Rodd Park this morning to take part in the Great Strides Walkathon.

Walkers, runners, cyclists and riders of scooters and strollers took to the 7km Bay Run route at 10am to raise awareness and funds for research into Cystic Fibrosis.

The skies were ominous from the very beginning.

At about 5km things came a little undone as the heavens opened turning the event into something of a wet t-shirt competition - and trust me to wear white! We all finished, and although we may have been decidedly soggier than when we started, our sprits were high.

Thank you so much for your support - both financial and emotional. It made such a difference as I powered the track!

The pointy end

Great Strides is this Sunday! Yikes!

To help me feel the love while I walk the 7km track, please make your donation today?

We should all be able to live full, productive lives without thought but not all things are created equal. Cystic Fibrosis NSW helps thousands of people with CF manage their debilitating condition daily.

To show your support, visit www.mycause.com.au/JudithCantorfundraisingpage - together we can make a difference.

Gratitude.

Countdown

Well, it's almost a week until Great Strides so it's time to step up my training regime and raise some dosh!

I'll be trying out the latest Latin dance craze Zumba tomorrow and if I like it, which I suspect I will, I'll be doing a couple more classes in it during the week. That's on top of two Hatha classes and, you guessed it, a walk from Bondi to Bronte. And just in case you thought I'd been slacking today, I've walked from Surry Hills to Paddington to Centennial Park and back - a mere 6km.

My fundraising target for Cystic Fibrosis is $500 and I've only managed to raise $100 so far! Please help me boost this total by giving as much as you can. All donations will be gratefully accepted, and any over $2 are tax deductible.

Please also forward my fundraising link -www.mycause.com.au/JudithCantorfundraisingpage - to any friends, family and colleagues who may be interested in supporting this worth cause too.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Breathing

This week, as I exercise like a demon, I'm going to focus on breathing - something that can be really difficult for someone who has Cystic Fibrosis. Diminished lung capacity must be such a challenge during soaring Sydney temperatures and allergy season!

If you can, please support me in the Great Strides Walkathon I'm doing to raise money for further research into this life-threatening genetic disease.

There is no cure. Let's help find one!

My regime for this week thus far has consisted of a 7km city walk. I'll also be powering Bondi-to-Bronte this afteroon, doing Hatha tomorrow, using my Orbitrek at home on Friday morning, kayaking on Saturday and, if all goes according to plan, doing the cliff walk again on Sunday after choir rehearsal.

New event registration

I've just registered for November's event - Rebel Sport Run4Fun aka The Sun-Herald Running4Kids. I'll be supporting the Sydney Children's Hospital, Randwick.

More on that one later - the Great Strides Walkathon 2009 for Cystic Fibrosis NSW comes first!

So simple yet so clever

Check out www.twibbon.com - great way to show your support for a charity by adding a ribbon to your Twitter avatar! It gives the option to show general support, make a dedication, run a campaign plus, plus, plus.

Loving the innovation!

On the offchance

Just in case you decided to sojourn to V Club to watch me (or join me) doing Hatha today... I've changed my training regime for this week!

I'll now be doing my 10km stint on the Orbitrek today, I'll still be doing Contemporary tomorrow, have changed to Hip Hop on Friday, will still be powering Bondi-to-Bronte on Saturday (weather permitting) and have added laughter club and Hatha on Sunday.

Great Strides Walkathon 2009

It's time to plan my weekly training for my next fundraising challenge - the 7km Bay Run Route at Rodd Park, Drummoyne on 25 October in support of Cystic Fibrosis NSW!

Earlier this year I befriended a lovely couple at choir. Over time I found out that they have a daughter with Cystic Fibrosis (CF). You may actually have seen her in the media - her name is Julia Goodwin. Not only is she an Ambassador for Cystic Fibrosis NSW, she was also a finalist in Miss World Australia last year, and is an accomplished singer.

Julia is lucky compared to some other people who have the illness.

CF is a lifelong disease and there is no cure. In Australia one baby is born with it every four days.

CF is a recessive genetic condition that affects multiple organs, most commonly the lungs and pancreas, by clogging them with sticky mucus. Repeated infections and blockages can cause irreversible lung damage and even death.

It can take people with CF up to two hours to administer their medication and have physiotherapy - every day.

Please join me in helping Cystic Fibrosis NSW find new and improved ways of treating CF - and finally finding a cure. The money raised from the Great Strides walkathon will go towards providing essential support and services to children and young adults living with Cystic Fibrosis across NSW.

Thank you!

P.S. If you want to witness me slogging it out in preparation for the big day, I'll be at Hatha tomorrow and Contemporary Dance on Wednesday at V Club on Druitt Street, powering 10km on my Orbitrek at home on Friday, and walking Bondi-to-Bronte on Saturday (weather permitting).
